Here’s an update Wednesday afternoon after interviews as the No. 21 Miami Hurricanes prepare to meet the Toledo Rockets in Ohio at noon Saturday:

Senior defensive tackle Demetrius Jackson, who sustained a knee injury against LSU, was practicing with the other linemen, as he was on Tuesday.

When asked how true freshman Greg Rousseau’s absence (he broke his ankle against Savannah State) affected the defensive line, starting defensive tackle Gerald Willis said this: “It affects it a lot but we have D-Jack back in the rotation so it really sets it even. So we really didn’t lose anybody.

“Prayers out for Greg. He just got his surgery today.”

So, how does Jackson look?

“D-Jack looks great,’’ Willis said. “He’s in the training room every day getting his leg right. He looks great. He looks fresh. I just can’t wait to see him play.”

Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz said Wednesday that Rousseau had earned more playing time before he broke his ankle.

“We’re sad to see him and hope to get him back.

“Up front, [defensive tackle Nesta] Silvera for sure will be in the mix. [Patrick] Joyner’s got a chance now with Rousseau being out. We’ll keep developing him. In the back end you’ve already seen more DJ Ivey. You’ll continue to see him.’’

Diaz said freshman safety Gurvan Hall will start play “more and more as the weeks go no.’’

Diaz said getting Demetrius Jackson back is “very important, especially going on the road, noon kick, hostile environment. It’s going to be a really big spectacle up there. To having an older guy who has been in that experience, whose seen those type of environments, he’ll know what to do, he’ll be able to play full speed from the beginning is important to us. We just want D Jack back anyway he’s big part of our defense.

Coach Mark Richt, when asked Wednesday on the Atlantic Coast Conference coaches’ teleconference about the one thing that still concerns him after two games: “I feel like we’re in a good place. We’re excited about trying to get better every single day and every single week and get back in the winning columng. We had lost four in a row. We needed a victory and got it... I don’t have any major concerns right now.”

Richt did discuss that Rousseau’s absence is a concern regarding depth. In two games, Rousseau had five tackles. Keep in mind that he didn’t play the entire game last Saturday.

Linebacker Zach McCloud, on meeting Toledo after the Rockets had an off week, giving them an extra week to prepare for UM after their 66-3 opening-game victory against VMI:

“We try to look at it as, I mean, they’ve had the extra time to prepare, but last year it was us spending the week in Orlando [after Hurricane Irma], and the coaches were scrambling trying to get us back in condition and it kind of went a sideways a little bit in terms of that. But I think we have the advantage in that we’re not holding any crazy injuries. Everybody is really… we’re still in that mindset. We haven’t had the chance to get out of it. So I think we’ll be fine.”

No new injuries that we could discern.

Sidelined on a conditioning bike again was junior receiver Ahmmon Richards (knee), who was injured in the opener against LSU. Richards wore a black sleeve on his lower left leg.

Tight end Michael Irvin, recuperating from knee surgery, was again on a conditioning bike.

NFL scouts were out there from the Colts, Lions and Redskins.

The quarterback order remained the same: Senior starter Malik Rosier, followed by redshirt freshmen N’Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon and true freshman Jarren Williams.

The tailback order for ball security drills was Travis Homer, DeeJay Dallas and Lorenzo Lingard as the first three, but later the rotation in one drill was Homer, Dallas, Trayone Gray, Robert Burns and Lingard. Mark Richt spoke positively on Monday about 5-11, 225-pound redshirt freshman Burns.

The Canes are favored by 10 points on Saturday.
