Did your computer fail to open a VCD file? We explain what VCD files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your VCD files.
The .vcd file extension is given to virtual CD files. A virtual CD file is an image of the data that has been recorded on a CD. This image is recognized by Windows as an actual disk. This makes it possible for CD's and DVD's to be run on a computer without requiring the actual disk to be in the drive.
The VCD file format allows users to play an application on network computers without having the actual disk on each computer linked to the network.
The .vcd file extension is also used for files created with the GNU VCDImager application. This computer application is used for creating Video CDs and Super Video CDs.
The .vcd file extension is also used by JVC, Sony, Matsushita and Philips to store VHS quality videos on optical CDs. The videos created onto the CD can then be played and edited later on a user's computer with video-editing software.
In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
A VCD (video compact disc) contains audio and video data files for playback in the same way as a DVD, but without the same level of image resolution and sound quality. The MPEG-format video resolution on a VCD is similar to a VHS cassette tape. VCDs will play on computers with a CD-ROM drive and most DVD players. Video files can be burned to a VCD using Windows Media Player, which is the default software program on Microsoft operating systems for playback and recording of CDs. If you don't have a DVD burner but want to make video discs, burning VCDs is a viable solution.
Insert a blank VCD in the computer's CD-ROM tray and close the tray. Windows Media Player should start automatically. If it doesn't, click the 'Start' or Microsoft Flag button in the lower left corner to select 'All Programs,' then double click on Windows Media Player.
Click the 'Burn' tab, which is the center tab in the upper right corner of the software.
Click 'Videos' from the list on the left side of the screen to open a folder containing all video files stored on the computer.
Choose videos to burn on the VCD by clicking and holding the left mouse button on each title and dragging it to the Burn list. A display at the bottom of the Burn list shows the remaining time available to add more videos.
Click the 'Burn' button in the lower right corner to copy the videos to the disc.
